John Stanford Constable
« on: Wednesday 01 October 14 22:03 BST (UK) »
John Constable was born was born 18th march 1817 in Beddington Surrey. He married Louisa Harding 25th Dec 1837 at Carshalton.  On the Carshalton OPRs he appears as John Constable for both events.

I have noticed that, on several FH sites he is referred to as John STANFORD Constable. Does anyone have any proof that his middle name was Stanford as I have been unable to find any evidence of this.

Thank You
Bruce

Apparently one can call oneself whatever one likes, perhaps he just added the Stanford.

Sometimes babies are registered as a single Christian name and baptised later with an added Christian name

He is shown on family trees with the added Christian name, perhaps the people who hold these  family trees will help you

Is this on official documentation or peoples trees  :-\

I would be contacting those people to find out where the information comes from.  It is quite common for one person to post wrong information & others to copy it without evidence.

I would certainly contact each of them to see where the middle Christian name comes from, most people are quite helpful and pleased to be contacted

Don't know as we have never found the mother's birth or marriage date  nor surname. I will contact the people as you suggest. Thank you all for your help
Cheers

There are Stanfords in Surrey and I am looking at some right now.

An odd thing I noticed in one large family in Surrey.   Wife number one died  and he marries wife number 2   and the first son of wife number two get the middle name as the first wife's family name.  This is confusing !   Three times in 20 years,  first one guy then his cousin then the first guy's brother.
