Edward Sheehy Pallaskenry Ireland
« on: Sunday 10 March 13 18:17 GMT (UK) »
I have been checking through Roots Ireland i.e. records between 1840 and 1850 and other websites kindly given to me on this site!  I looked for Edward, Edmond, Edmd. Edmund Sheehy born in/around Pallaskenry Limerick 1845.

On Root Ireland i.e. the nearest birth year to my Great Grandfather I could find was named Edmd whose father’s name also Edmd. Sheehy - Mother Mary Hayes.

Edmd date of Birth 27-Sep-1847 - Date of Baptism - 1-Jan-0 - Parish/District ASKEATON Co. Limerick – Denomination - Roman Catholic - Father and Mother’s Occupation Unknown - Sponsor/Informant 1 Thos Hayes – Sponsor/Informant 2 Bridget Hayes

I found another Edmd. Sheehy same details as above on family search birthdate entered Unknown baptism was the same date given for Edmd.’s birth 27th-Sep-1847.

2nd entry found - Edmond Sheehy Date of Birth Unknown - Date of Baptism 07-Feb-1847 - Address Unknown  - Parish/District: CROAGH - County Co. Limerick Denomination - Roman Catholic - Father Edmond Sheehy - Mother Bridget N. L. Sponsor/Informant 1 Jn Shanahan Sponsor/Informant 2 Jna Shanahan

3rd entry Edmund Sheehy - Date of Birth Unknown - Date of Baptism 18-May-1848 Address Parish/District ABBEYFEALE County   Co. Limerick  - Denomination Roman Catholic  - Father Edmund Sheehy - Mother Hanora Kennelly - Father and Mother’s Occupation Unknown - Sponsor/Informant 1. Not Recorded - Sponsor/Informant 2 Johanna Sheehy

4th entry Edmond Sheehy Date of Birth Unknown Date of Baptism 00-May-1847 Parish/District GALBALLY & AHERLOW County Co. Limerick - Denomination Roman Catholic Occupation Unknown – Father Edmond Sheehy - Mother Honora Hanley - Sponsor/Informant 1 John Galvin - Sponsor/Informant Cath. Merrick

I believe Edward/Edmond was born between 1843 to 1848,his service record states he was 25 years on his last birthday in 1870 which gives his birth abt 1845 but I have learnt doing my family tree two years either way could be a possibility of being my great grandfather.
If my understanding is correct ASKEATON Co. Limerick is not far from Pallaskenry, but I am not sure where CROAGH ABBEYFEALE GALBALLY & AHERLOW are situated in Ireland.

The only Edmund Sheehy I could find in the Parish/District KILCORNAN & STONEHALL County Co. Limerick, was born 20-Sep-1848 Baptism 1-Jan-0 - Father Myles Sheehy Mother Margaret Downes Sponsor/Informant 1Michael Downes Sponsor/Informant 2 Jna. Fitzgerald.  I don’t feel this is my great grandfather.

I am going to assume Edmd. Sheehy born/baptism 27 Sept 1847 Parish/District ASKEATON Co. Limerick is possibly my Great Grandfather!

During my search of Edmd I found possible sibling have same parents.  The parents’ birth-place – age etc. has no entry, the reference ID also has no entry, but they all have the same indexing project (batch) number C70113-1 - System origin Ireland-ODM and GS film number 926138.  Not sure if this is relevant! – Can anyone tell me what ODM stand for?

How do I track Edmd and his father to find if they were labour and groom as stated in my great grandfather’s service records?

Possible Siblings of Edmd Sheehy: -
Thos (I am assuming = Thomas) Sheehy (Birth-date/Birthplace) No Entry - Christening date 24 Apr 1846 – (Approximately 17 months older than Edmond) Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

Pat (Patrick) Sheehy - Christening date: 10 Mar 1849 (Approximately 18 months younger than Edward) Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

Bridget Sheehy Christening date 20 Dec 1850 (Approximately 21 months younger than Pat) Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

Margaret Sheehy Christening date 20 Jul 1855 (Approximately 4 years 7 months younger than Bridget) Christening Place: ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND
Catherine Sheehy - Christening date 04 Mar 1857 (Approximately 19 months younger than Margaret)

Eliza Sheehy - Christening date: Feb 1864 (Approximately 7 years younger than Catherine)
Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

James Sheehy - Christening date 19 Nov 1865 (Approximately 20 months younger than Eliza) Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

John Sheehy - Christening date 21 Sep 1869 (Approximately 3 years 10 months younger than James) Christening place ASKEATON, LIMERICK, IRELAND

My apologies for such a long winded message but it helps sometimes to write it down
Regards
Mary-Agnes

according to Lewis (1837) the civil parish of Chapelrussell, which includes Pallaskenry, was included in Kildimo RC parish - so think that's the parish to search for a Pallaskenry baptism.

see from your other thread that Edward was '..  Church of Ireland/England!  ..' - so dont think any of those baptisms fit.

CoI records for Chapelrussell parish, are listed on Rootsireland as 'Ardcanny & Chapel Russell'

Hello, the names of the siblings ring a bell. Is there an Askeaton connection perhaps? I was interested when you said a Sheehy enlisted in 1870.  The house where James or John Sheehy lived- Askeaton House- was sold ca. 1870, or before. My relative moved to north London where he joined the first Constabulary. We are travelling to London very soon on a roots trip! Mail if you like/ would be around:
