Porters of Chelmsford
« on: Friday 28 November 14 18:05 GMT (UK) »
I am tracing the Porter Family.  I have 3 baptism records from the internet but they only tell me bare facts:

1] 11 May 1849  Henrietta Charlotte Maria Porter, parents James & Caroline
2]   7 Sep 1854  Christian Isabel Porter, parents James & Caroline
3]   7 Sep 1854  George Vickers Porter, parents James & Caroline

I believe they were born as follows:

1] 1848 Tunbridge Wells   2] 1852 Walworth, Surrey  3] 1850 or 1853 Chelmsford

I think mother Caroline was born Vickers (as in son George) around 1823 but can't find her anywhere, either birth, marriage or census.
I think father James was son of James and Charlotte Porter, also of Chelmsford, with siblings of Ann, Betsey & George. I have him on 1841 census but nothing else!

Question: Is it possible to look up the actual baptism records and find more information, such as father occupation and anything else - I can't get to Chelmsford.

Many thanks for any help possible.

Both Ancestry and Family Search have the transcription of the baptisms but no images. The easiest way would be to get one of the children's birth certificates, as that would give you mother's maiden name and father's occupation.

I cant find the family together in any census - have you?

In 1861, Henrietta and Christian are with their grandmother in Chelmsford and in 1871, Henrietta is a servant.
