Lost railwayman
« on: Sunday 02 January 05 22:31 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please help me find William Edwin Berry with his wife Alice & Family on the 1851/1861 censuses. He was born in Gloucester and worked for the Great Western Railway. Cannot find him in Gloucester on these censuses although he is there in 1848 and 1871.

I have looked for the census of 1851 that I have and  there isn't one on for Hucelcote, So I don't know wether it has been missed of or lost.

Thanks Ricky for taking the time to help me.

I had found my Berry family on the 1861-1901 censuses, it is just the 1851 which eludes me.

I have since subscribed to Ancestry.co.uk in the hope that they may have been in another county, but still no trace of them. Like you say they must have been missed off.

Cheers,
poirot.  :D

The hamlet should be at HO 107/1961 according to the national Archives if you want to look again.

Thanks Pauline for that information.

I have the 1851 index from the Gloucester FHS and William Edwin and his family are not included.

I draw a blank on ancestry.co.uk also, so I assume the enumerator did not walk down their road.

poirot ???

Railwayman - cheap travel - could have been elsewhere, maybe?

...or not. I have searched. Also tried Berry, Benny, Perry, Penny and other variants. Another lot abducted by aliens.  ;)
