Thank you for all the replies. Redroger. - my tree only goes back 7 generations and the other match even less.  The reason for us doing the dna was inmthe hope of matching with someone on the dna site who might have the missing links for us.  We didnt match to anyone with the same surname at all.

We do suspect that maybe it was something similar to your experience but without the records we cant go further back and these records arent available here.

Supermoussi- im not sure my dad is interested in upgrading.

My connection was 3 generations back on both sides; but without the documentation you will be struggling to say the least. However, if I can be of help please pm.
