Help Finding Thomas Burbridge
« on: Monday 06 October 14 19:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help me, I am trying to locate the birth of my ancestor Thomas Burbridge. I have his marriage certificate when he married Mary Ann Best in North Shields in 1868, found him afterwards on the census' and he states he was born in Ireland. No more clues.

His father is John Burbridge whp was alive in 1868 and was a Hatter.

Any help would be great?

Julie

If you search Griffith's Valuation on:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

for Burbridge, you get just three returns here:

 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ak1/

These include a John Burbridge in Carlow in 1852.

How do you know that the father John Burbridge was alive in 1868?

If you search Griffith's Valuation on: ...
Only heads of household are listed in Griffith's and it's possible that John Burbridge wasn't living in Ireland at that time.

When would Thomas Burbridge have been born? (census records, if found, would give an indication)

Searching for John Burbridge a hatter brings up some interesting possibilities-

Marriage (1849) of John Burbridge (hatter) & Margaret Flaherty

Georgiana Burbridge bapt.1852- parents John Burbridge (hatter) & Margaret

Possible 2nd marriage for John Burbridge (1856)- father also called Charles as in 1849 marriage-

Just to note

It would appear that Margaret ie John Burbridge's wife was married before she was actually Margaret Hussey Flaherty !

Hi Aghadowey

I was ruling out that second marriage due to the fact of it being Roman Catholic as opposed to COI ~ always possible that he changed religion.

BUT the baptism that I put forward looks like a good match AND the mother's name on that doesn't match the name on the RC marriage.

So, I think the RC marriage should be ruled out ~ what do you think ?
