Manor House Horbling Lincolnshire
« on: Tuesday 26 April 11 20:15 BST (UK) »
I am not looking so much for the information about people, but the home in which they lived:

Manor House, Horbling, Lincolnshire

we believe it may have been demolished in the 1930's or even before.

my family lived there between 1830 and 1880 ( Anthony Creasey Taylor b 1791 and then his Son George Henry Taylor b 1830)

I also understand the property is referred to in a copy of Lincolnshire life sometime in the 70's ( I can get this from Lincoln Archives but as yet have not got round to it)

I have pretty much done everything in terms of looking for information, viewing maps at the National Archives and the like but so far nothing. We do not have the specific location on census documents, tax returns, wills or directories.

I am looking for any information, even pictures - some one out there (you maybe?) just might have something.

All we have is the attached sketch drawn by a family member in 1914

Hi Ancestry, If you type Horbling Manor House into Google, there is an article about wartime evacuees returning to the Manor House Horbling after 60 years. Hope this is of interest to you. Regards Del.

Thank you Del that is very useful to have. The reference to Manor House is only a brief one , and I had thought it to have been demolished in the 30's - have written to the Newspaper for Clarity as sometimes it is confused with Horbling Hall.
Thanks it was a great find.

Hi
I happen to have a photo of the Old Manor House Horbling, regrettably it doesn't look anything like the picture. I however can, like someone else did, identify with a degree of certainty the location of the site in the picture. But I ask the question was the picture actually drawn in 1914? this is because the property was included in a sale of the Conant estate which I have a map of and details of the property. It was then held by Mr Dickins and was as it is now a pair of cottages. The cottages are of some interest as one un-rendered gable end is made of good stone. An earlier enclosure map indicates that there might have been a different building on the site and it might have possibly been the new Manor House, This would be interesting. There is no other mention of such a building. Therefore I would be keen to investigate this further as I live in Horbling and am active in local history.  I also, from church records, have a number of items about various members of the Taylor family. Are you interested in these as well?  Typically in 1829 'The surveyor of the Highways reports to the Vestry that he has received the most abusive language from John Taylor and that he cannot make him work' What other local name are of interest?
