Address in Coatbridge 1911
« on: Friday 31 October 14 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Is there any way to find out who lived at an address around 1911, and possibly a bit later?

I am doing some research into a family - the son remembers the address where his father was born in 1911 as 10 Kirk Street Coatbridge. His 1911 birth certificate gives a different address.

I am wondering whether he was just brought up there and mistakenly thought he was born there.

I don't think that the 1911 census will help me as the census was taken in April and the son was born in October at a different address, the address where his father lived when he married the previous year.

The son was planning to visit the address where he believed his father was born but I have had to given him the bad news. It would be nice if I could tell him who was living there.

Any suggestions or assistance gratefully received.

Suspect the only way is to search 1911 by address using FindMyPast or SP
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Think the 1911 Census is only available on Scotlandspeople(for now) and is not searchable by address.

Monica , I'm sure someone has asked this before ?

Yes, I think you are right ev - the 1911 Scottish census is only viewable on SP. I have some credits but have never searched the 1911 Scottish census before so am unsure how easy it is to search - I don't want to use up too many credits in the process of finding out who lived at this address.

Maybe someone will know if I can search by address and maybe give some hints and tips. :)

Hi c145hoo

Unfortunately you cannot do an online address search for the 1911 Scottish census on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Not sure if this is different if you did this type of search at an one of the main genealogy centres in Scotland?

The Valuation Rolls on SP won't help you for now for 1911 as that year falls between the available 1905 and 1915 currently available online...

May be that the only source for this type of search will be a local library search for the Valuation Rolls or Post Office Directories...these again likely have to be personal searches.

Monica  :)

Thanks Imber - loads of interesting resources there, and good to see that they have a research service (which they specifiy there only may be a charge for - not there is definitely charge for) which may be good news.  :)

I am new to researching this area so have a lot to learn.
