I have made 2 attempts to send the photo, both have failed. I seem to be getting nowhere with this all of a sudden and for no apparent reason!!! Will send the file to Elaine.

Here's what Joerg and HenryWilhelm have put together so far:

1st. person:
Was schießt Du  [blotted, not readable ]
Wärst Du doch heute hier
zwischen  ! Feine Sache
Kuß Frid

What are you shooting --?--
If only you were here today ! Good stuff !
Kiss, Frid.

Frid = Elf. = Elfriede ?

2nd person:
Ruskis natürlich! Diese Frage! Aber wovon
träumst du da auf dem Stein ? Hier sitzt
eine Schwafelbande beisammen, nur du
fehlst. Es grüßt dich deine Schw[ester] Miez, die die
Gesellschaft noch in Ordnung hält. Wenn die
nicht wäre!!

Ruskis of course ! This question ! But what are you dreaming of,
there on the stone [rock ?]. This is a waffle gang, sitting together here.
[The gang is sitting here waffling ?]
Greetings from your sisiter Puss, who is keeping them all in order here.
Wouldn't it be wonderful without them !!

Last line is meant very  :P
the whole postcard is friendly chit-chat, waffle

3rd. person:
Eigenlobe stinken
und meine Reime hinken
drum mach ich schnell Schluß
Mit herzlichem Gruß und Kuß

Written in dogrel verse, .... "eigenlob stinkt" = Literally: self praise stinks ...,
but it is a well known phrase, so with the equivalent in englisch, ...

Self praise is no honour,
and my poems limp
so I'll close fast
with hearty greating and a kiss.

4th. person:
Mieze hält die Schwafelbande
beisammen? Das glaubst Du
doch sicher nicht. Das bin eher
ich, ich nenne die Schwafelbande
nur mit anderm Namen:
Gans -- Gans -- Gans-- Hütemädchen -- Gänschen
Miez. -- Elfr. -- Hilde ------- ich ----------- Käthe

Puss is keeping them all in order ? I'm sure you don't believe that. That's more likely me, I just call the waffle gang by other names.
Goose -- Goose -- Goose -- Goose-girl --- gosling
Puss  --- Elfr. ---  Hilde ---- me ---- Käthe

5th. person:
G. d[en] 22.8.12 [G. is a place name]
L. E. Leider vergaß ich dies Kärtchen abzu- [L. E. = Lieber E(mil, -gon, -rwin or similar]
schicken! Lotte.  M. hat am 2. Septem-
ber Geburtstag! Kuß Frid--?--[unreadable, corner missing] hat am 11. September Geburtstg. vergiß
written at the side]
das nicht --?--. Uns geht es allen gut. Leider  muß

In G. on 22.8.[19]12
Dearest E. unfortunately I forgot to post this card ! It's Lotte M.'s birthday on 2. September, Kisses, Frid   --?--  has a brthday on 11th. September, don't forget it. We are all well. Unfortunately must ....

Some of Joerg's thoughts on the matter:

It looks like Elfriede started the card, and then the other three added there contributions. Elfriede forget to post the card, mentions this and adds the reminders about the birthdays. The others will probably not hace seen this bit.

I [Joerg] understand it thus:
Several friends (girls) are on an excursion or trip somewhere and write to the husband of one of them, more precisely, the husband of the last writer, Elfriede.
She is the one who reminds the recipient about the birthdays, with the caution "don't forget !" That is something only a loving wife would write, isn't it ?
And she is so serious, that she also adds something about how they are all well.

The "the german transcription office" is still arguing on the german forum whether it is Schwafelband (waffle gang) or Schwefelbande (sulphur gang, i.e smelly gang, somewhat insulting, but not among friends), both used in a friendly way here to describe the group.

and for those who prefer the picture  ;D

and these sentiments  ::)

Ich schiess den Hirsch im wilden Forst,
Im tiefen Wald das Reh,
Den Adler auf des Klippen Horst,
Die Ente auf dem See
Kein Ort der Schutz gewahren kann,
wo meine Büchse zielt
Und dennoch hab' ich harter Mann
Die Liebe aud gefühlt.

I shoot the deer in the wild forest,
and the doe in the deep woods.
The eagle in the cliff eyrie
The duck on the lake
No place which can offer protection
wherever my rifle aims
and yet, I, a hard man
have also felt love.

Many thanks for all your efforts so far. Is the writing on the side most recently posted recoverable?

Yes, but "the german transcription office" is still working on it;
I'll give them a bit more time to decide among themselves, and then post the results tomorrow :)

Thanks very much Bob, as I believe I implied earlier I have 6 others from the same source. When translated (where possible)  I will make a full posting on how they came into my possession.
