Jane WILLIAMS born in Llanrug about 1810
« on: Monday 14 April 14 22:31 BST (UK) »
One year ago, I started a similar topic for Robert WILLIAMS who was born in Llanarmon about 1809 only to be advised he was most likely baptised on 30 Aug 1812 so the 1810 may be a bit 'soft'.

Jane WILLIAMS is my great grandmother, the paternal Nain of my maternal Taid.
As with her husband Robert WILLIAMS, I've been unable to find any baptism records for her in either FreeREG or Family Search & I'm hoping there is someone willing to look up the actual Llanrug parish records for baptisms.

Re Jane, I have:-
1) Her marriage certificate (5 Jun 1843 at Llanbeblig Church to the above Robert WILLIAMS) -- Spinster 'of Full Age' living at Pentra Newydd, Carnarvon & father Robert WILLIAMS, Shoe Maker
2) Birth Certificates for her second & third children -- on both, Mother is Jane WILLIAMS formerly WILLIAMS
3) 1851 Census -- Wife aged 38, born in Llanrug
4) 1861 Census -- Wife aged 51, born in Llanrug
5) 1871 Census -- Wife aged 59, born in Llansliyg!
6) 1881 Census -- Wife aged 70, born in Carnarvonshire
7) 1891 Census -- Widow aged 79, born in Llanrug
8) Her death certificate -- died on 3 Mar 1896 aged 85
9) A picture of her headstone confirming death details

PS. If anyone can work out which 1841 Census record is for her (there are so many possibles), than that would be an added bonus for me!

Thanks & regards,

Hi
There is a baptism in Llanrug, 29/12/1812 :
Jane daughter of R(?) William of Drws Daugoed and Mary his wife.
This would fit in with age of 38 in 1851 Census.
(?) - I think that it was Robert, but that I only wrote down R !  Will check.

If you look at replies by myself to your previous connected query, Robert Williams, the placename Drws Daugoed (or variant) crops up in Llanarmon.
Emyr

Thanks Emyr & it's good to hear from you again.

I've received a Personal Message from Gadget who gave the date as 29 JAN (rather than Dec) 1812 & who also gave a second one of 2 Dec 1812 for Dorothy & Jane, illegitimate twin children of Jane Ellis & Robert Williams, servants at Glan yr Afon.
Assuming first one is Jan, then I favour that as it's a few months earlier than that of her husband (Robert Williams) & on their joint Census records she's usually the same age -- never younger.

Is there an English translation of Dwrs Daugoed and is it the sort of placename that you would expect to be used in different locations?

My running days are now formally over :'(
Saw the specialist two months ago -- almost exactly one year after 'injuring' my knee in the 2013 Chichester 10k race -- & I was told, with my worn inner cartilage in my left knee. that at best I might be able to do some light jogging but must not ever do any serious running again.
I hope you're still an active runner.

Regards, Rob -- will be celebrating my 70th in August with my wife, our four children & their spouses and our nine grandchildren at the Mumbles (close to where we had our honeymoon in 1966 & not too far away where my father's father came from)

Hi
Ooops, sorry, got the date wrong. Had another look today. It's from the days before printed registers, i.e. on plain unlined paper. Isn't clear whether it's January or February; decided it's 29/02/1812. Bad news is that it only gives the initial 'R'. Next entries for Drws Deugoed are in 1822 and 1824, and parents are RICHARD and Mary Williams.
Drws Deugoed suggests to me that its located somewhere where there is a gap, or pass, between 2 woods, leading from one area to another.
Just restarted running after a gap over the winter because of calf injury, not going very well at the moment.
Emyr

Thanks Emyr as at least it rules out one option although I'm uncomfortable about the illegitimate twin option as being so late in 1812.

I'm still a season ticket holder for both Portsmouth & Southampton but over the last few years it's been a complete change of fortunes. Last Sat, I saw Southampton give Cardiff a very surprising chance to retain their Premiership status, This Sat, I expect Portsmouth to at long last to guarantee remaining in the Football League -- even if it's in the bottom Division.

On Tues, I was on Board 4 (of 4) of the Fareham Chess team (I'm the Club Secretary) that won the Southampton Chess League Div 4/5 Cup Final. I managed to get a draw against an opponent who is graded 18 points higher than me!

All the best, Rob
