It is not easy to find exactly where people who came to Scotland from Ireland were born. If they were married in Ireland and went on to have children born here, the place of marriage would be given on the child's birth certificate. Unfortunately this does not apply in your case. The census is rarely of any use, as the person's birthplace is usually just given as "Ireland" (some are more precise). Using the person's parents names (from their death certificate), their age and the names of their children, can point you to possible origins. The best source for finding a precise origin, however, tends to be the records of the parochial board if someone applied for poor relief.

To give an update to all who have been so helpful!  I have found the Birth certificate of Patrick and Mary's first child and it lists where they are from in Ireland! Bad news is Patrick's is not readable to me and Mary's is a place that is possibly misspelled because there is no information on the town.  I have uploaded the files to a post in Deciphering and recognition help forum to see if anyone can help. It is under "Need help identifying towns/ county in Ireland"

Thanks again!
