margaret horan
« on: Tuesday 09 July 13 11:04 BST (UK) »
Hi I am looking for any information on my great grandmother Margaret Horan, she was born in Mullingar 1869 and she married a british soldier called Edward Browning. I know they lived there for approx two years as my grandmother Mary Browning was born in that area in 1893. Any information on any of the people mentioned would be absolutely fantasic.  Thank you.

could this be the family on the 1901 census ?

  Browning household, Belfast

Mother Margaret born Mullingar, but daughter Mary born Fermoy, Co. Cork...

I'd start with any census returns you can find and then maybe a birth cert for Mary, and see if a marriage can be located for Margaret & Edward, as this would give you the names and occupations of their fathers. Horan is quite a common name, so there could be more than one Margaret born in Mullingar around the late 1860s early 1870s.

possible birth for Mary from the BMD Index :

  Name : Mary Charlotte Browning
  Event Type : Birth
  Quarter and Year : Apr-Jun 1893
  Registration District : Fermoy
  Volume : 4 / Page : 571

Fermoy is in Co. Cork, and quite some distance from Mullingar and Co. Antrim, but had a major barracks. Several of the children were born in England, so it's possible the marriage was there...

this seems to be the family in 1911 - still in Belfast Antrim town.

  Browning household

Married 21 years, so c1890

I think the 2 census entries are actually in Belfast, Co. Antrim, rather than Antrim town.

Hi,

You probably won't see this as it's an old post, but Margaret Horan would be my partners great granny, her son Christopher would be his grandfather, please get back to me if you will see this
