Where in Co Cork is Moyln?
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 04:57 BST (UK) »

I have recently obtained the death certificate of a grand uncle William Keppel, (son of John Kepple and Catherine O'Riordan) born 02.05.1838 in Newmarket. That certificate records that he married Johanna O'Sullivan (daughter of Michael O'Sullivan and Margaret Bailey) in 1870 in MOYLN Co Cork. William died in 1915 and Johanna died in 1922 and are buried in the Kew (Boroondara) Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

I have located a Moyln Park in Kiskeam, but have had no success tracing Molyn. Any assistance would be appreciated as I am visiting Co Cork in August.

Moylan / Meelin would appear to be the same, I wonder was it Meelin village (have a look at the link below)?

Also on that theme, a couple of Co. Cork townlands are Meeleen and Meelon.

Edited to add: Meelin village is just north of Newmarket, see here in this 6" historic map (note the RC church):

RootsIreland gives a positive search result for William Keppel marriage to Johanna O'Sullivan 1870 father John in Meelin RC
Also works using Johanna as the Search person
Mothers names knock it off but likely they are not recorded.

There is a St. Joseph’s in Meelin, a possibility?

Edited to add:  BTW, the 6 inch map link previously posted is for the OS maps from 1829 - 1841, the 25 inch map link immediately above is for the OS maps from 1897 - 1913.

Thank you Gaffy and Sinnan for your detailed responses which  are most helpful.

Meelin definitely "fits the bill" as that town regularly features in the Kepple family history
I have gathered to date.
