Do we agree that John Stevenson's occupation on the 1901 census is fish hawker?  (RG13/3705; Folio: 54; p. 21 - see below)

Has anyone got easy access to directories to check?  14 Rumford Street, Hulme.

Hi Aulus,
looking at the census - yes I would say he is a fish hawker. I tried to check with 1891 but no success  ???

Definitely a self employed fish hawker.

They don't make them like they used to - I had a fellow knock on my door this summer hawking fish.   When I realised I had to buy a box containing enough fish to feed the whole village I demurred  :o

Thanks everyone.

I think there are more people selling fish door-to-door nowadays than there are fishmongers with shops.

I put in fish hawker Aberdeen in Google and this thread came up.

My Tomlinson line were fish hawkers from Manchester England and married into Stevenson (also hawkers)
