Hi
The baptism at Manchester Cathedral fits everything that Mary Jane has put on marriage certificate and I think that is more than likely her but with nothing to confirm this there still exists that element of doubt
In 1861 she is only 4 or 5yrs old so would have to at least be with her mother if her father was working elsewhere
In 1871 she could be working anywhere and not necessarily with her parents but nothing to be found on any of them around Salford area

I notice that on the image of Mary Jane's baptism -- there isn't an actual birth date, whereas in the case of John Alexander -- he is shown as born in May 1858 (baptised in July). Abode is Salford.

I cannot find a birth record on the Civil Registration Index for John Alexander Wadsworth in 1858. The middle name of Alexander may just hint at a Scottish connection.

As has already been said -- there is a John Wadsworth registered in Salford, but in Q/E Sep 1858. If he was born in May -- I would expect it to be Q/E June 1858. There is no birth registration for Mary Jane in Salford. If these 2 were twins you would expect them to be registered together on the same day.

Even assuming that Mary Jane was baptised late -- and therefore born in 1856/7 -- there is no obvious birth registration in or around the Manchester area. This is really weird!

I wonder if William changed his surname -- to perhaps avoid any financial implications following the insolvency? It's the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Your right there Pennines when you say really weird, it gets weirder day by day
If by any chance these people are from Scotland (research in Scotland has not found them though) they could have gone back to get away from Williams financial problems or he could have avoided the census in 1861 for the same reason
On Mary Janes second marriage to Frederick Joseph O'Hara in 1900 they put down that his father Bernard O'Hara was deceased but not for her father William Wadsworth so can only assume he was still alive in 1900
