Is the only way to know of a cause of death if not on SP is by ordering a death certificate?

Hi,

If you are looking for the cause of death for someone dying after the current ScotlandsPeople date cut off for online records, I would have thought that, yes, you would have to order the certificate/extract to get information on the cause of death.

Best wishes

If you want to view a "modern" death certificate there is also the option of going to any Registrars in Scotland and viewing it on line.  Not much use if you don't stay in Scotland!  Also wise to check the charges beforehand. Ideally you would have several queries to check out so as to get value for money.
