Burgess Family Reedham
« on: Sunday 26 January 14 12:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Bit of a long shot really, I'm related to the Burgess family who were present in Reedham, Norfolk in the 1800's to early 1900's. I have visited Reedham before and found loads of gravestones for them so I believe they were quite a prevalent family so I was just wondering whether anyone else on here was a relation and knows any more about them or even better has any photos. Being on the marshes, a lot of them were marshmen and my Great Great Grandfather Abraham Burgess (1867-1950) after being a marshmen became a railway plate layer.

Like I said, it is a bit of a long shot but I would love to know more about them.

Many thanks

Angela  :)

I can't help, I'm afraid.  I've been researching the Grays/Dunts in and around Limpenhoe and Cantley, just along from Reedham.  Many of them were marshmen and platelayers.  But I haven't come across any Burgesses.  My gt gt grandmother's cousin was married to the man who operated the railway swing bridge at Reedham.  I'll certainly remember you if I stumble across any Burgess folk in my researches.

Thanks for the reply, who knows we may not have been related but as they were in similar professions our families may have known each other :)
