Looking for this place, please. Downing Street, Ordwick Lancashire. Is this really Ardwick, now in Manchester? "Richard Leak, Downing Street, Ordwick, Lancashire, butcher" is referred to in a Lease from National Archives:-
"William Leak.Copy lease and settlement relating to property in Hayton DDGD/409/4 8-9 Aug 1833 1 Item Contents: Parties: 1) William Leak, formerly of Yapham but then of Pocklington, yeoman, wife Ann. 2) John Buttle, Huggate, farmer; John Richardson, Thixendale, farmer; Richard Leak, Downing Street, Ordwick, Lancashire, butcher. Property: several freehold closes of William Leak at Hayton containing 15 acres. Witnesses: R Henry Anderson, George Bagley. Part of a parcel marked 'Title deeds of field purchased from Leak in occupation of R. Appleton' "
source: Copy lease and settlement relating to property in Hayton DDGD/409/4 8-9 Aug 1833; These documents are held at East Riding of Yorkshire Archives and Records Service; National Archives, UK.
Am trying to find a relationship between William Leak the yeoman and Richard Leak the butcher; but it would help to clarify if this Ordwick may merely be a transcription error.
I have no wish to restart the War of the Roses!
Thanks in advance
