Hi All
Thank you for your help.
I now know roughly where it is. I worked all around this area when I was a young apprentice.
Many thanks to all.

I  don't  know where you  are now ,  but  you  probably   wouldn't  recognise  parts  of  Romford  now , !  The  Oldchurch  hospital  site  is  now  new buildings  ,  with   building work   still going  on

Hi Jan 57.
I worked for the Gas Works in Crow Lane. I have been back once or twice and it changes every time............ Not too sure if its changing for the better though :o
Kind regards,

There is an Albion Close off St Andrews Street close to the railway
This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

There is an Albion Close off St Andrews Street close to the railway
This has already been noted:

http://romford.streetmapof.co.uk/albion-close/
The above  link is for  Albion  Close ,   however this  is  close to  a fairly   new  road  ( as  in  probably  not there  in  1880s!)  Albion Street  may  well  have been  demolished ,   there's  an awful  lot of  new   buildings been put  up in Romford  ,  even  in the time  I've lived near there !
Well I have found it, but now I have to work out where it used to be. I think it ran north south at the east end of where Albion Close is today. I think Albion Close used to be called Albion Terrace.
Added: try the search using the address 24 Albion Close and then select the 1873 town plan
I think Albion Street was approximately where I thought.

Old maps online is a great site for finding old roads, here's a link to the Romford Maps.

Also the National Library of Scotland website has added geo-referenced maps with an overlay tool but they haven't quite reached Romford yet with the detailed ones, they're adding more all the time though so may be on there soon.
