I wonder if any one can help with this one!
My friends 3rd Gt. Grandfather was Charles Lennox born about 1792, probably Dumfries, and married to Isobel Oliver at Dumfries on 12th Jan 1812. I have this marriage document, but the file is too large to attach, so I have attached a portion of it. I can only find Charles or his wife in the 1841 census (below) and no others.
As you will all be aware, marriage records at this time contain very little information, however, this one states that Charles was in the 19th Light Dragoons. I have acquired some historical info on the regiment, but there is one interesting fact re this page of marriages. There are many soldier marriages recorded in this page from 5th Jan 1812 to 31 May 1812.
Does any one have a clue as to why there were so many soldiers from different regiments in Dumfries during this period and why there were so many soldiers getting married?
