B.C Birth Records
« on: Tuesday 29 July 14 12:18 BST (UK) »

Hi

As recent as yesterday I discovered that I had a relation emigrate to British Columbia in around 1913.

Now on the trail of living relations, but doesn't appear anywhere to look at birth records past 1903 for B.C.

Please could anyone confirm this and is this literally going to be a dead end no hoper?!

You could try the 1921 Canadian census.

If they remained in British Columbia, you can look for deaths at this link. Deaths are available up to about 1991 and may provide a clue in the informant. Marriages are available up to about 1934.

http://search-collections.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca/Genealogy/BasicSearch

Births are only available to 1903 due to privacy laws. The same laws apply to the availabilty of the marriages and deaths. Beyond these years we depend on things like newspaper notices of births, etc. and cemetery records, some of which can be found on line.

If the last name is unusual you might try the telephone white pages. There may be a potential descendent listed. Addresses are usually included.

Voter's lists are also available through Ancestry.

Thank you Sandra.

The parents would be Jeanette (Janet/Jean) Watson and James George Watson (both Scottish).

It is a small window to search as the father was killed on 22.9.1914 in the war and they were married 03.09.1913 in Vancouver.

Jeanette died 19.1.1921 aged 36 so don't think she would have made the 1921 census.
She had been living in Victoria for 4 months at time of death.

I have found information on her on familysearch in the obits, no children mentioned so think they probably did not have any.

The 1921 Canadian census was taken 1 st June 1921 - the death record shows 19 Jan 1921 as you said - so unfortunately she does not appear.  :'(

The marriage 3 September 1913

You have probably already come across this - Can see Jeanette (unmarried) Macindoe born  Ayr Scotland listed on a New York Passenger List going to her fiancé 2 nd Officer John George Watson - SS Empress of Russia.
Mother - Mrs Macindoe - 26 Park Circus. Ayr Scotland. Jeanette was single and had no listed occupation.
SS California arriving 25 August 1913. Glasgow to New York.  So just a few weeks before her marriage.
