Thank you James,

I have never seen anything like it. I thought it may have been taken in Europe somewhere.

I wonder if the vehicle has broken down, the rear axle looks at an odd angle and what looks like a leaf spring seems disconnected. Perhaps the soldier is helping as he is holding the horse.
I thought perhaps Europe, British gypsy caravans tend to have a more pronounced bow of the roof.

This link is WWI but you can see the caravans
MOD COMMENT: This link should work
http://www.rootschat.com/links/019aw/

Link not working for some reason
It's from Caravan Times
A feature called How the Caravan Club pitched in during WWI, put that into google you should find it.
Very interesting read, how caravans were used for officers and nurses etc. and this lead to the motorised caravans of today.

Have you considered that it is in fact a wheeled shepherd's hut.  They were quite common in the sheep areas and were taken up to the sheep pastures during lambing for the sheperd to sleep in so he was on hand.  They are a collectors item in their own right now.  The small wheels and shape and design match one in my neighbours' farm exactly.

I think we are looking at the rear of the caravan?
Otherwise where is the connection to the horse or vehicle?

I know the view is the rear of the caravan, the suggestion was that if the unit was broken down the horse would be taken from the shafts, but like everything else all is supposition without facts or expert knowledge which I don't have'
