Matthew Lipson
« on: Tuesday 07 October 14 06:46 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I believe Matthew Lipson served on the Windsor Castle (built 17900 and may have even died in service. I also believe he left a will. Can someone tell me how to confirm this and where/how to find a copy of his will. His son, Thomas Lipson also served on the Windsor Castle from the age of 10 years and maybe Matthew's son, also called Matthew.
cheers
Jilly

Hi, this is the frustrating part - I just can't find anything on Matthew. Thomas Lipson became quite famous in Australia and biographies state his parents as Matthew and Ann Lipson. Since Thomas was born in 1783, maybe Matthew was born 1753 - 1765 but not sure. There are two marriages for Matthew Lipson and Anne, one being Anne Moore and one being Anne Mortimer. I'm not even sure if Matthew and Anne were married when Thomas was born. I simply can't find anything on Matthew but I keep trying and hoping.  ::)

I have also found a M Lipson on Ancestry on the following site:
"Calendars of wills and administrations relating to the counties of Devon and Cornwall : proved in the Court of the Principal Registry" - page 813 but of course don't know whether it is him or not. I'm not sure how to order the will.

Is this the right baptism for Thomas?

The listing for the Lipson will is for My (Mary) Lipson.  If you follow the cross reference from the index to the relevant page you will see that it is Mary Lipson of Kenn, whose will was proved in 1771. Seems unlikely to be of direct relevance.

The marriage for Matthew Lipson and Anne Moore doesn't take place until 17/03/1789 but it's the same church as Thomas's baptism - St Petrox, Dartmouth.
