Thank you for that Chinthecarver and welcome to Rootschat. I'm sure you are correct with Bramha Putra (although I think the "m" has been omitted). I'm not quite convinced the first word is crossed though - the "r" doesn't look like the others, but it may just be hurried writing from someone not used form filling. I think the meaning is spot on. Thanks once again.

The record is that of my late father-in-law, who was certainly at Kohima for the final stages of the battle and shortly afterwards was appointed aide-de-camp to Gen. Warren. He returned to his regiment (4th/7th Rajputs) just before Warren's fatal plane crash, so was extremely lucky to survive that as well as Kohima

I thought it said 'Ceased Brahma Putra" ???

Was there an action on the Brahma Putra?

Welcome from me too, Raghu - it's always great to have a Chatter with specialist knowledge.

I wonder if anyone can help with the attached record? It relates to an officer in the 4th/7th Rajputs who joined the regiment (from the 9/7th Rajputs) on 16th April 1944. This was in the middle of the battle of Kohima and I'm keen to find out if he took part in the later stages of the battle.

Have you considered the two war diaries? Officer and well documented in the field returns and all movements are normally documented with a date.

WO 172/4961 4/7 Rajput Regiment 1944 Jan-Dec

I can't seem to find a war diary for the other unit as late as 1944 though.

There was no action on the Bramha Putra, it was the route in and out of Northeast India to Assam, the Arakan and Burma. There were three crossing points, Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
