Family of Edward John HUGHES from Limerick

Can anyone please assist with finding information on my great grand father Edward John Hughes.

According to his marriage registration, he was born in Limerick, Ireland abt 1880. His father was also Edward John Hughes (an architect? and mother was Mary Catherine Ross.

He emigrated to New Zealand on the "Tainui" in March 1896 I think.

I have tried many sites but have had no luck tracking my Irish roots

The nearest i could find to anyone of that name between 1875 and 1885 is Edward John Hughes born April June 1881 in Skull or Schull in Cork he could have been born there and grew up in Limerick.
I see you have ? mark behind Architect for fathers occupation have you some doubts or is there a problem with transcription.
