Henry Cook's Wife Elizabeth Born Saffron Walden 1832
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 21:07 BST (UK) »
I've been looking for the marriage that took place between the father of Walter James Cook, Henry Cook born in Bassingbourn in 1831 and an Elizabeth who was born in Saffron Walden in 1832. They raised their family in Royston where Henry was a baker.

Thanks in advance for help on this one. I have census entries on them both moving forward in Royston and Therfield.

When was their first child born?
What is the earliest census you have them on as a married couple?

The earliest census I have as a married couple is 1861. Their first child is Walter and his age is 4 years. Walter's birth is Royston and Henry's birthplace is Bassingbourn which I now know is nearby.
Elizabeth is listed as age 29 and Henry as age 30 and a journeyman baker in Royston which I've learned used to be divided between the 2 counties.

I hope that helps. Thanks.

So they could have married in either Essex, Cambridge or Hertfordshire

Have you already discounted the 1855 marriage in Royston?  Elizabeth = Betsey

Carole,

Somehow I managed to miss that particular record. Thank you for providing it. So Betsey is the wife listed in all the census that followed as Elizabeth, but she went by the name Betsey probably because I can also see she had a younger sister called Eliza. I was able to take a look at Robert Taylor married to Hannah and his family (ag lab) living in Saffron Walden in the 1841 census. Betsey was born in 1832 and in the 1851 census is a servant at the Bull Inn in Saffron Walden which is maybe where she met Henry Cook.

Again, I appreciate the help.
