Thank you both - that has been most helpful to my research and has helped me find sources which I have been attempting to find for some time now, I really appreciate the help :)

I was also wanting to know about the father of Thomas Ironside (b. 1807) who was another Edmund Ironside (b. 1767 or 1768). Any sources which link this Edmund Ironside to his son, Thomas Ironside, would be much appreciated.

I also have been told that the parents of this Thomas Ironside (b. 1767 or 1768) are a John Ironside (1729-1809) and Mary Mudford (b. 1732). I would really appreciate any sources for this.

There is a baptism of a Thomas Ironside, St Peters Congregational Church -

Thanks again, both those links are very useful :) I wasn't aware of that familysearch.org tool prior to now, it's a great resource.

One thing I'm having trouble with is differentiating between different people of the same name and similar location/age. I'm trying to find out if Edmund Ironside (b. 1768) is the son of John Ironside (1729-1809) who was the son of yet another John Ironside (b. 1702).

I'm finding it difficult to come to any definitive conclusions due to confusing amount of John Ironsides in the Dorset area. Can anyone help me with confirming the above pedigree?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=137450.0 Another Ironside researcher.

There appears to be a free Ironside Dictionary compiled by Mike Kay to those researching the name

I'm actually in possession of the Ironside Dictionary, which has been an amazingly useful resource in many ways - unfortunately I'm still stuck on this one issue!  ???

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NDGC-HLF possible?

Surely there would be sources to confirm research of Mike Kay?

I'm going to try and get in contact with Mike Kay as I've managed to track down his email address, his dictionary is incredibly informative so I'm sure he will be able to help me out further with tracking down resources for my research.

Thank you once again for those links, that seems to be my John Ironside as it adds up to the date of death I have for him in 1809.

Do you think it would be plausible that this John Ironside would have been born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and would later marry and live in Dorset, England? I'm now trying to confirm that this same John Ironside (1730-1809) was the son of an elder John Ironside (b. 1702).

The http://www.opcdorset.org/ website has helped me track down some valuable documents regarding marriages etc but unfortunately hasn't helped me to resolve this particular issue so far.
