Thank you sgf28. 1841 census taken in June, so both John and Isabella are unmarried.

Perhaps John is still in Scotland in 1841. Has anyone found him south of the border?

Oh dear ... loads of possible John Thompsons in Scotland. Trouble is at that age he may not be at home with a father James, or his father may have died, so a difficult search.  :( Maybe the marriage certificate might be worth purchasing in case it says whether James is deceased (as well as to get occupation)?  :-\

Ruskie I have John and Isabella's marriage as the 6 Dec 1841. From the census believe that in 1841 she was living with her parents at Sheepridge Leemailing Northumberland as it states in the 1861 that she was born in Bellingham and in 1871 Haltwhistle.

I hope my research is correct.

Thanks fo all your effort. I will need to look into Scotlands people.
