A tale of - well something. These individuals can be found in my 'Gargrave' public tree on Ancestry.
Dorothy (Dora) SNOWDEN born 1870, registered Q2 Settle, Yorkshire is living with her parents in Litherland, West Derby, Liverpool in 1891(RG12/2985/59 page 46). They have a lodger James H (Herbert) Preston.
It appears Dorothy married Robert Alexander Hill 31 Mar 1884 in Liverpool. As she was only 13 at the time this was illegal and her 'husband' received a criminal conviction on 8 May 1884 at Liverpool assizes. Presumably the marriage was 'annulled' or as it was illegal just assumed to never have happened.
Dorothy and James are on the 1901 census (RG13/4026/45 page 37) married with children youngest born 1896 baptised in Gargrave, no UK marriage found.
Immigration has arrival 'Teutonic' 11 Nov 1895, ex Montreal with point of embarcation New York - James H and Dora PRESTON.
USA marriage Kings, New York James Herbert PRESTON and Dorothy SNOWDEN 11 Nov 1895.
Is it possible for someone to check marriage record for parents names (Robert PRESTON, Henry SNOWDEN) and also immigration - I cannot access the Castle Garden website as it returns an error when I try to search.
Any help to find this missing piece of the jigsaw would be appreciated
Allan
