Thank you for this Sally. Now I am confused -- from not knowing where Poole was I now have options!

I still haven't found Mary Dakin's birth though (about 1789), wherever she was born.

Many thanks to everyone for their interest and help with this.

Just to add more confusion, there is an area called Pool Dam in Newcastle under Lyme

Have you got details of her marriage?  Does it give her fathers name?
There is a Mary Dakin on the familysearch website, baptised in 1791 at Rushton Spencer, which is fairly close to Poolend.  Fathers name is Joseph and mothers name is Rebecca

Grateful thanks, Chrissie.

It's actually not my query -- I was just trying to find the place for someone else - and thought that the wonderfully helpful Roots Chatters from Staffordshire may have heard of Poole.

After not being able to find anything resembling that name -- the number of possibilities is growing daily!

I am just passing all the suggestions on -- I will now let them try to find the baptism.

Thank you all.
