Donald Fraser, Cromarty
« on: Thursday 02 February 12 11:36 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the death cert for my GGG Grandfather Donald Fraser who was born Cromarty 23.9.1811.  He married Margaret Davidson (b. 27.10.1815, Cromarty), and their son Hugh Fraser (my GG Grandfather) was born 30.1.1842 Aberdeen, and died Edinburgh 11.2.1882.

I know Margaret died in Glasgow on 26.2.1882, and I have seen a family tree on Ancestry which states Donald died in 1867, however I can't find his death cert on Scotlands People.

Any ideas where to try next???

There is a death for 1867, Lochbroom, Ross and Cromarty, birth year 1811 for a Donald Fraser. If you know his mother's maiden name, then add that to the search parameters, which will narrow it down even further.

Further, 3 children born to them in Ross and Cromarty,
Marriage, 22 May 1841, St Nicholas, Aberdeen
Hugh as posted
Margaret Sinclair Fraser, 18 August 1846, R & C.
Donald Fraser, 23 January 1849, R & C.
James Fraser, 6 February 1860, R & C.

Apologies Malky - I had seen that death cert - I neglected to include in my original post that Donald's parents were Hugh Fraser and Helen Urquhart.

There are at least 7 trees on Ancestry which stated 1867 for year of death, but none with "Citations". The 1867 death cert for the Ross and Cromarty death should show a profession. Is it "Blacksmith", or what ??

It's the 1867 death cert that I can't trace, but the son Hugh's birth entry in Aberdeen list Donald as a Blacksmith, yes.

I still haven't managed to close this one out and it has me stumped.  I've been back to the Scotlands People Centre recently but to no avail.

The 1867 death entry is for a Donald Fraser, Fisherman from Ullapool, widower of Christina McDonald, married to Mary Mackenzie.  I have checked all other death entries i could see for Donald Fraser's.

The last trace i have is the 1861 census where Donald was living with his wife Margaret (and children Andrew, Margaret, Donald, Jane, Helen and James) at 188 Pier House, Cromarty, he was 48, and a Blacksmith at this point.

Anyone any ideas/suggestions?
