224th Inf Bde 9/41 (MC & A22)
« on: Sunday 30 March 14 22:47 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I need help with the above please:

Do the abbreviations mean Infantry Bridgade ??
What does 9/41 mean ??
What does (MC & A22) mean ???
Would a female have worked in the above ??

Any other information regarding this as a whole would be most welcome, I am looking at WW2 era.

Kind regards

Guess but could it be marriage certificate? Google army form A22 think it mentions birth, marriage baptism records from army records.
224th brigade operated in Uk from 1940-dec 1941 so yes possible for female to serve that date could refer to Sept 1941

Thanks Ady

The details are from a marriage certificate for September 1941.

Also where would this place be Kirkb'n when 224 Inf Bde HQ returned from Egypt 31.12.1941 ?? This information is taken from the husband's Service Records, but how was this brigade in Egypt and returned ??

224th Independent Infantry Brigade (Home)
10/10/40 - Formed for service in UK.
12/22/41 - Brigade HQ disbanded.
Assigned Units
7th South Wales Borderers 10/10/40-11/15/41
19th Welch 10/10/40-12/5/41
9th North Staffordshire 10/10/40-12/15/41
8th Royal Ulster Rifles 8/1/41-12/15/41
8th East Yorkshire 11/25/41-12/15/41

so 9/41 must mean 9th North Staffordshire 1941 ???

I think 9/41 has more to do with wedding? If sept 41 is wedding cert date.

Could that location be kirkburton?

Well it could be to do with the wedding, but I would have thought it would have been in the brackets.
There is a Kirkburn, East Yorkshire, nr to Driffield which had a large army base and several smaller pockets in and around the area.

I found that info too, so how did her husband come to be in Egypt, states this on his SR and whilst there gives his wife's address as next of kin.
Did the 9th North Staff's serve in Egypt ??

9th North Staffs were turned into Royal Armoured Corps in December 1941 they were a training regiment before that.
Was he transferred in from another unit?
