Mcdiarmid/Cameron
« on: Friday 12 October 12 21:44 BST (UK) »
Please can anyone assist me as I am after anything at all on Ann McDiarmid who married Hugh Cameron 4 March 1816, at Aharacle, Argyll, Scotland.

They had a son called William Chisholm Cameron born about 1838 who immigrated to New Zealand and died in 1916.  He is interred at Milton in Otago.  Ann McDiarmid and Hugh Cameron likely had  other children as well? which I think are Ewen,Alexander,Archibald and perhaps James

Did the rest of the family emigrate somewhere as well?

I also have a similar post on the New Zealand Board in seeking information of William Chisolm Cameron.

Hi and welcome

FamilySearch has these entries

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYZP-N5F

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYZP-J61

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYZP-LBV

Are you absolutely certain that William C was their son as he was born 22yrs after the marriage?  Could he have been their grandson

Hi Carole

Yes I looked on the family search site now and it says there was a son called James as well as its shows his marriage and listed his parents as  ann and hugh.

I have the death certificate for William Chisholm cameron and it says that Hugh Cameron was Father and Ann Mcdiarmid was mother and it said william was born argyleshire, scotland.

I entered their names (ann mcdiarmid and hugh cameron) in family seach website and thats how it showed thier marriage info.

regards

Tracey

I can't see an entry on the IGI for the James you mention above - what year was he born and when/where did he marry?

Hi Carole
I private messaged you twice but as I am new to this perhaps it didn't come through.
Don't know when the james was born only info was what was on about his marriage to Margaret McNiven on the family search website that showed his parents were hugh cameron and ann Mcdermid.  Seems strange though that its lists his marriage but not his baptism like for his brothers on that site callened alexander, archibald and Ewen.

Yes thats the marriage I found as well, sometimes mother surnames spelt Mcdermid or mcdiarmid but that seems to be the way on some of the legel stuff but its the same person.I  wanted to get the information of Hugh Cameron and ann Mcdiarmid as no idea when they were born or where they were born except that it must have been scotland someone?

I wonder how old James was in 1859?  Have you viewed the marriage cert on SP?

I found this 1851 entry for  Ardnamurchan but cannot find online entries for the childrens baptisms to check Ann's maiden name.  Age for William is many years different

All shown as born P of Ardnamurchan, Argyll except where noted otherwise

Hugh Cameron 59 sailor
Ann 45
Jane   22
Donald   18
James   16
Ann   13
Jessie   9
William 6 b 2 of Aharacle, Argyll
Catharine   2   ditto
Colin Fraser 36 b Applecross, Rossshire - lodger
Alexander Fraser 25 ditto
