Grandad played tennis for Eastbourne around 1920's- any records ??
« on: Thursday 05 June 14 23:13 BST (UK) »
Hi,

As a young man my grandfather played tennis for Eastbourne so I was wondering if there would be any records anywhere.

He was born in 1905 so it would have been in the late 1910's - 1920's I would imagine.

Any help greatly received.

Thankyou.

Greetings!

If you let us know your grandfather's name we will be better able to help.

It is possible that local tennis clubs may have online records, but newspaper articles are a good place to start.

My starting point would be to search g00gle (or any search engine) using "tennis" "Eastbourne" and your grandfather's name, then narrow down the search depending on what I found.

All the best
Philip

Hi Philip,

Yes, I've tried Googling but didn't find anything  :(

His name was Arthur Laker.

Thanks for your reply.

Oh well, - I thought at the time I was stating the obvious by suggesting g00gle!

Sorry I couldn't help.

Good hunting.

Good evening,

I don't know how long all the clubs have been going but some are relatively new. your best choice would probably be Devonshire Park tennis club.

Then I would try Hampton park tennis club and Meads tennis club. There may have been others years ago but can find nothing about that.

An RC member (newmark401) is compiling details of early tennis players.

I have sent him a PM, just in case he can help!! ;D
