freeman family Freshford
« on: Saturday 10 May 14 09:28 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find details about George and Ann Freeman  - George was the son of James Freeman and Ann.  I am related via George and Ann's daughter Rebecca via her marriage to William Isaac.

I am looking for information about the parents of Ann Freeman.
George was living alone in the 1841 census at Staple Hill Freshford.  He was born about 1791 and died I think in 1843.  I don't have any details about Ann in terms of dates except a reference to a marriage circa 1808 but I am not sure what the source of this is

there are a couple of trees on A******y -not too well sourced - one gives a date for Rebecca's marriage to William Isaac 21 May 1843 Walcot bath at Weslyan Chapel -so maybe it would be an idea to check non conformist records

One tree gives children as George 1812 Rebecca 1811 Albert 1836

the other tree gives children as Harriet 1808 rebecca 1811 william 1813 Amy 1813

It seems Rebecca was 10 years older than William Isaac and she had been previously married to George Reynolds

Also her father George Freeman would have been c.16 years old in 1808
I have found this
Canadian & British regimental register
9 Aug 1808 George Freeman of Freshford Somerset
enlisted 82nd Foot Soldiers 2nd batallion
Age 16 Height 5'2" Eyes blue Hair Brown Born Freshford Somerset Occupation Labourer

There is a baptism
Freshford Somerset
George Freeman
born 28 mar 1791
baptised 8 may 1791
parents James/Ann

do you have a definate list of children born to George freeman & Ann? and p.o.b.?
As it seems george was in the Armed services he could have met and married Ann anywuzhere

Looks to me this is Ann Freeman who died 1844 with Son James in Wiltshire;

1841 Census
Wiltshire
HO107/1182/11/Trowbridge
James FREEMAN, 50, Cloth Worker
Sarah, 50, Cloth Worker
ANN, 80
Eliza, 10
All NOT born in County except Eliza

James FREEMAN Married Sarah HUNTLEY, St Peter, Freshford, 23 Oct 1806 (FreeREG)

I may have this wrong a a Tree has this James married to LYDIA and leaving England.
The one I found above with Wife Sarah is still in Wiltshire in 1851.

Something is wrong with my Anc sub, I cant access Trees for some reason.

So at least the Baptsims etc I posted are correct!

many thanks for the help - I am not sure how to reply individually - I have only just joined -

Some very interesting information -The St Peters Freshford entries tie up with the information I have although I also have another daughter AMY born abt  1815 - I am not sure what happened to her as there don't seem to be any other details that fit

is it possible to source what the 'by order of the coroner' note is about for James buried 30 December 1807?

There does seem to be some variation in the birth dates for George Freeman.  The military reference to George Freeman enlisted with the 82nd Foot soldiers second battalion.  Is there any way I can source records of this - I am assuming it is a Somersetshire regiment???

Once again I really appreciate the help - what an amazing site this is
