Cant find family between two dates
« on: Tuesday 07 October 14 15:56 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have a family living at 79 Meath Street at the time of the fathers death in 1868 (from death cert) - the next time I have sight of them is in 5 James' Street North (North Strand) in 1887 a year before the mothers death (Thoms)

I am only aware of three children but realise (and hope...) that there may be more that I don't know about.

The next time I'm in Dublin I plan on looking up Thoms for both addresses around both dates but am at a bit of a loss as to how to fill in the gap between the two years - any suggestions??

FWIW the family I'm looking for are McEvoy / M'Evoy  - father: William b. 1823 d.1868, mother Elizabeth b. 1821 d.1887, children John d 1916, James d.1939 and Elizabeth. DOBs are from death certs but for children have different ages on 1901, 1911 census' and death certs so none reliable.
I've pored over parish records for St Catherines, Meath Street for about 15 years prior to fathers death and didn't find any births or a marriage that looked connected to him..... my poor eyes were in bits after that  :D

Thanks,
Denise

Hi Denise

What was William's occupation as he would need to have a fairly good one to feature on any directory.

What was his wife's maiden name ?

Tara

Which of William and Elizabeth's children are you direct ancestor ?

Can you please post a link to this person on the 1901 & 1911 Irish Census ?

The we can try and work backwards !

Firstly Tara - apologies, this post was more or less to see if anyone had suggestions as to how I might find the family inbetween the two addresses that I have, rather than looking specifically at the family, this is why I didn't list their name in the Subject bar.

I have no idea of William's wife's maiden name unfortunately. William's burial records show him to be a Mercantile Clerk though his death cert said he was a Foreman in a Flour Mill. Elizabeths own burial records list  her as a Mercantile Clerk's Wife!!

One of the sons mentioned, James is my great grandfather, link to both censuses here.http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rotunda/Fitzgibbon_Street/1330372/ http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Mountjoy/North_Strand_Road/22320/

This is 1901 for brother John - I have seen them listed in Thoms back to at least 1886, could be earlier... this is the earliest we looked at the time. http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/North_Dock/James_St__North/1275253/

Daithi -thanks for those links, I haven't had a chance to look at them but will do so shortly.

Thanks all
Denise

Hi Tara,

James' marriage cert shows both himself and his father to be a Clerk.
