Spencers in Gorey, 1790
« on: Saturday 25 October 14 03:43 BST (UK) »
I'm researching a James SPENCER who was born in Gorey in 1790. I don't know his parents names or any details on his extended family, although it may be that his father died around the time of the Wexford Rebellion (that's just a hypothesis at this stage, though). We also suspect he was CofI, so that narrows parish searches slightly. He pops up again in Staffordshire in the early 1800s & I have a lot of info from this time on but I've been unable so far to find any info on his early life in Gorey - not made any easier by the fact I'm in Australia & can't search physical records easily. I've kind of hit a bit of a brick wall...where do I go from here to try & find birth/baptism details? Or really anything that may help? Thanks!

Houses of Wexford. David Rowe & Eithne Scallan. (ISBN 0 946538 46 8)
---------------
Coolnaveagh, Gorey

The original of this house was built in 1847 by the Board of Works as a labourer's dwelling. It has been lived in by four generations of Spencer's, who have constantly added to and improved the property.
----------
Ballytegan, Gorey
Ballytegan could be mid 19th century. The first known name associated with it is Spencer.
