Hi All

Scotlandspeople were very quick in supplying RCE for Catherine. I'm pretty sure that this is the correct Catherine even though there are some discrepancies. The Marriage certificate gives age at marriage as 27 in 1921 so birth at around 1894. birth certificate says 1887.Marriage cert gives fathers name as Alexander Grant Farm Grieve, birth cert RCE as Railway porter. Doing a search on Scotlandspeople for years 1885 - 1900 shows two entries (1) Forres and (2) Polmont, stirling. Father Thomas, mother Annie.
I know that she may have been registered as just Catherine Grant, but there are some good matches. I just have to find a marriage certificate for Ann and Alexander.

As this was a paternity case, rather than the birth being made legitimate by a subsequent marriage (which would also have been noted in the RCE), it is probable that Ann and Alexander never married. The Annie Grant bit on Catherine's marriage certificate may have been a fiction for the sake of appearances. Not unusual.

You may be able to find the court papers for the paternity case at the National Records of Scotland (SC18... documents I think)

Hi Janealogy

Having more time to read through RCE, this is probably not the correct Catherine. Alexander's surname is recorded as McKenzie. So Ann's name of Grant would be her maiden name according to RCE. Marriage notice gives Alexander Grant and Annie Grant now Ross M.S. McKenzie. So back to square one. As there are only 2 Catherine McKenzie Grants on Scotlandspeople 1885 - 1900, she must have been registered as Catherine Grant.
