Glad to help - I received an email today that a man who specializes in family history on the area where my ancestors lived is going to contact me soon to help me - his grandmother was a Caufield!!  This is one of those golden nuggets that anyone researching family history is excited to get - I hope I can do the same for you!

Wendy,

Glad to help.  This is my first (but probably not last) trip to Ireland.  Can't wait to see where my family came from and get more information.  I may be early September before I can email you back, depending on internet availability in the BB's we are staying in.

I checked on Ancestry and found a John Henry Leathem (b. 1869, wife Maude) who left Lisburn for the US in 1922, but no one else who fits your description.  Will let you know.

Dennis

I will be spending two days in Carlingford visiting the RC Church and cemetery (and other catholic churches and cemeteries in the Omeath area) in late August of this year.  I hired a reasearcher in Belfast who found quite a bit of family information for me in the catholic church records at the PRONI library. I may be able to help some, but our time there is limited - we have lots of research to do!  I found maps in the Griffiths Valuation of where my ancestors lived which we are also going to check out.

Louth / Caufields in County Louth
« on: Saturday 08 May 10 05:08 BST (UK)  »
Greetings Everyone,

My name is Dennis and I live in College Station, Texas, USA.  I found out a few months ago that my Caufield family ancestors were from County Louth and more recently, with the assistance of Alan Hand at the Dundalk County Library, that they lived in Tullaghomeath.  I have researched the Griffiths Valuation, 1911 Census, BRS Genealogy site plus a few more of the sites available here on RootsChat and have quite a bit of information collected.

My brother and I and our wives are traveling to Ireland in August of this year for tourism plus some family history research.  We plan on staying in Carlingford for several days and would like to check out the local Catholic church cemeteries for additional family information.  Any advise which will help us in our family history search will be greatly appreciated.

Pertinent information about my ancestors is in the attached file.  Thank you
