Rennison/Bensusan was her maiden name and on the 1841,1851,1861 census she was living in Darlington,England.

I am not sure if her father was in the military.

Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding the above?

I am trying to trace my great, great, great grandmother's birth.According to the 1851 and 1861 England census she was a British Subject born in Gibraltar in about 1785-1790

I think she was either Ruth Rennison or possibly Ruth Bensusan.

Many thanks

Thanks to all for their help,Patb...what wonderful hands on research.I found the list below on an'Old pubs of Consett'link:

The Stirling Castle........known as the "bottom house" it stood on the corner of Albert Rd. and Front St. demolished when they widened the road. Managed for a lot of years by local lad Ronnie Hall who played for Consett F.C. for quite a few seasons.
The Royal Oak..........known as the "stout house" it was near the bottom of Front St. where one of those russian pubs is now.
The White Swan.........can't remember this one but was located just below the Turf.
The Mount......next to Gralands .is it some kind of restrurent now ??
The Turf.....Paddy Grimes is still operating.
The Park.........now called Bellamys
The Burton .........on the corner of Victoria Rd. , recently used as a computer shop.
The Shakespeare and The Railway, both in Shakespeare St.....long gone.
The Queens and The masons Arms both Middle St.....also long gone.
The Duke.....still there
The Alexandra........would have been near enough opposite the library. In my day one of the dives in town.
The Brittania ..........recently gone
The Fountain.....still there
The Edinburgh.........Middle St and the Wheatsheaf...........the Miridian eventually after a couple of name changes
The Coach, Freemasons Black Horse and the Grey all still hanging around
The Imperial in between the Fountain and the Duke
The Commercial.............the Braes ???
The railway Tavern and the Beehive..........where tyre services is now.
The Travellers Rest.......recently closed
The Board Inn..........now this one is doubtful.........on the site of the Trades?????

We mentioned the Black Horse and The Grey........so I'll leave you with the Brown ???? Someone may have a good memory. It has been mentioned by me before

Thanks Jen and Stan,
I think we are in the right place. The ironic thing is the building to the left now belongs to Durham Council it is their Register office.I have e mailed them again to see if the Consett location is listed anywhere.

Stan and fellow researchers,I contacted Durham Records Office re:the licence for the Imperial Hotel and they replied with the following:

Thank you for your e-mail of 03/07/2011.

I checked the trade directories that we have for that period, namely 1910, 1914 and 1921 but unfortunately could only find an Imperial Hotel at Stanley and South Shields. The former had the entry  'A.Higginbottom & Co. Limited, Front Street, Stanley'  for all 3 years. There is not a John Shepherd Marshall listed under the list of private residences in the area.

I have checked to see whether there are any licensing records for the petty sessional division covering Stanley but was unable to locate any surviving records.

We do not have any access to the 1911 census in this Office.

You may wish to check local newspapers for licensing notices.

But I did check Stan's reference to the link with Harvey Tce in Consett with a couple of trade directories at the library .I also had a suggestion from a Consett Facebook site that it may have been near the Carlton takeaway on Medomsley Rd.I have checked Google street view and if you head North away from the Duke of Wellington and find Joanne Christophers Hairdressers, there is a drivers training centre to the left of her shop.I am almost sure that this building was the Imperial Hotel. If you look at the roof line of the next building to the left the bityou can see on my picture matches almost exactly. What do you folks think?

I have tried the Scottish Brewing Records in Glasgow and they e maile back to say they only keep records of pubs from the middle 20th century. They suggest I try the licensing records as Stan mentioned.
Thanks again for all who helped,I will update if I discover anything

Thanks for all your thoughts and information on the pub.I have contacted the person who has the picture to confirm the name above the door.I did take a copy to a professional photographer but they couldn't enlarge it any better than yours,Stan. The link to the pub in South Moor with he banner over the name is interesting as the pub is a Vaux pub,who took over the Steel Coulson Brewery.Although I would think Vaux probably had a lot of pubs in the area.

I have just enlarged the image of the Vaux pub and there is a sign on the front wall and it is called The South Moor, but could it have been renamed???
