Someone went to the records office and extracted all of the Metcalfes from the register they held. I have a copy of the list they made. And of quite few other parishes besides

Hi Linda

Children of Richard & Ann taken from the parish register of Bolton cum Redmire (and not from the IGI).

20/11/1825 Jane Metcalfe dau of Richard, miner & Ann of Bolton
13/5/1827 Elizabeth Metcalfe dau of Richard, miner & Ann of Bolton
20/9/1829 Christopher Metcalfe son of Richard, miner & Ann of Bolton
3/4/1831 John Metcalfe son of Richard, miner & ann of Bolton

There are also some baptisms of children born to Christopher & Ann Metcalfe in the same Register, do you think the whole family moved here? I've listed them below, just incase

26/6/1814 Ann Metcalfe dau of Christopher, labourer & Ann of Redmire
26/4/1817 Joseph Metcalfeson of Christopher, labourer & Ann of Redmire
6/12/1818 Dorothy Metcalfe dau of Christopher, labourer & Ann of Redmire

The info I provided wasn't from the IGI, but from source records. Admittedly I haven't seen them myself, but I still beleive it to be reliable. I wasn't aware this information was available on the IGI.

Hi

I have a William Mte bpt 18/01/1824 Askrigg, s.o. Ann Mte spinster, Bainbridge.  I also have William c1826 (who married Mary Ann/e Simpson)  s.o.George Caygill Mte bpt 04/01/1781 Askrigg & Isabella nee Blades

What I'm trying to work out is whether Ann kept her son and brought him up, or whether he was adopted by George & Isabella. They had other children whose baptisms are all listed in the parish records, but William's isn't. The only baptism for a William tht comes close, is the one for Ann's son.

Does anyone have any idea how I can go about confirming or disproving my suspicions?

I live in hope :)

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage/Baptism Look Up Barnard Castle Please

Hi Ashley

Someone transcribed all of the Metcalfes from that parish, so it's their interpretation of what they were reading. I think Muker is the most probable place. One of the Entries says 'upon Swale'.

Funnily enough, I have a transcript of some of the Muker parish records too. There are a couple of possibilities:

Baptism: 16 Dec 1773 James Son of Rev Lister Metcalfe of Muker.
26 March 1775 James son of James and Ruth Metcalfe, Tailor of Muker (very promising!!!)

The next one is in 1784 (11 July) son of John and Mary Farmer of Oxnop

It doesn't look like James and Ruth were married in Muker, or at least, it's not in the info I have.

Let me know if you have more questions, happy to help.

In the help pages they have an 0845 number unless you are calling from a virgin landline, then it's free.

I lost my broadband completely a couple of months ago - some little toerag had cut my cable  >:( I lost my TV and phone too!

One thing to bear in mind about the Virgin broadband is that it's cable, so the speed is no affected by the quality of your phoneline, the distance from the exchange or the amount of people using your exchange for broadband. It's a data network you are using, not a telephone network. The only thing that would limit it is the speed of the network. But as Virgin pass all of their TV traffic over their network as well, it has to have capasity so that the quality of the viewing is good and there is no latency.

In answer to the cost of the technical help number, I think they have recently started charging for it. :(

If you are worried about NTL, then you should be worried about alot of Broadband suppliers, because quite a few including Tiscali, Talk Talk, Pipex and AOL utilise their network for they broadband products. Admittedly, their customer support is different, but the access problems would be the same.
