London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / William Lock- Newington
« on: Sunday 15 January 06 12:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hi. I wonder if someone might be able to help me trace my 2nd great grand uncle, William Lock. He was born in Newington in 1849 to John & Maria Lock (nee Payne). The family were living at 8 Graham Street during the 1851 census, but moved back to Barnstaple (where John came from) a couple of years later.

From my research, I have found out that William was in boarding school in Edmonton, Middlesex during the 1861 census, but seems to completely disappear from the records until  the 1891 census, when he's registered as living at 81 Portland Street, St Marys, Newington with his wife Edith (born in 1870 in Bermondsey) and working as a painter.  ???  ???

I have no idea if he was living in Barnstaple during the intervening years, or whether he stayed in and around the Newington area.  if anyone has any information or ideas on where I might start then I'd be most grateful. many thanks.  :)

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / 1851 Lookup - Newington - John & Ann Lock

Hi. I wonder if someone could lookup my Gt Gt Gt Grandparents in the 1851 Census? Although John Lock was born in Barnstaple in 1826, he married Ann Maria Payne at St Mary, Newington (Kennington Park Road) in 1847. He was recorded as living at 17 Union Square, Union Road, Newington on the marriage certificate, which is also the address on the birth certificate of their son John Thomas in 1848.

However, by 1853 the family were back in Barnstaple but I can find no record of them in the 1851 Devon Census. I can only assume they were still in Newington.

Any help would be gratefully accepted. Many thanks.

Hi Winto

Many thanks for your reply.  To be honest I guessed it might be a bit of a long shot. I'll take your advice and invest in a few credits for 1837online and put aside a couple of hours on the computer!  :-\

Thank you

Andy

Gloucestershire / Ann Maria Payne - Bristol

Hello to you all

I wonder if somebody could help me track down the family of my gt gt gt Grandmother. She was born Ann Maria Payne, sometime around 1828 or 1829 in Bristol. She married John Lock from Barnstaple (exactly where & when I haven't been able to find out). It then seems they moved to Newington, Surrey where they had 2 children (Jane L Lock & John Thomas Lock) before moving back to Litchdon St in Barnstaple (where they were during the 1851 Census & 2 years later when their 3rd child, Charles, was born).

I have tracked down 2 possible christening entries in the LDS, but can find no concrete evidence that either are correct....  ???  :-\

Ann Payne  Female
12 APR 1829   St Phillip And Jacob, Bristol, Gloucester, England
Father:  Abraham Payne
Mother:  Hannah

Ann Payne  Female
Christening:  05 JUL 1829   St Phillip And St Jacob, Bristol,
Gloucester, England
Father:  Henry Payne
Mother:  Ann

Any information or assistance would be gratefully recieved. Many thanks in advance.  :)

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Lookup - Lock Families in Barnstaple

Hello Sue

Many thanks for the information. However, I'm surprised there's no mention of a son, John. I wonder if my research was wrong and that he's from another Lock line?

Would it be possible for you to determine if there's a John Lock aged about 15/16, living in Barnstaple at the time of the 1841 census? I suspect Litchdon St may be the most likely address.

Thank you for your helps with this.

Regards

Andy

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 Lookup - Lock Families in Barnstaple

Hello to you all

I wonder if someone would be so kind as to look up the Surname Lock in the 1841 census for Barnstaple? I'm particularly interested in John Thomas Lock (b. 1798, Barnstaple), a draper of Boutport St (although he possibly resided in High St after 1828). He was married to Elizabeth Lovering (b. 13th Jan 1798) and they had 9 children between 1825 & 1841.

Their 2nd son, John (b. 1826 Barnstaple) is my gt gt gt Grandfather, who married Ann Maria Payne (b. 1828, Bristol). Their eldest child, Jane L Lock, was born Q4 1847 in Newington, Surrey although the family were living in Litchdon St at the time of the 1851 census and 2 years later when their 2nd child Charles (my gt gt grandfather) was born  ???. I would be very interested to see exactly where John was living during the 1841 census, particularly if it could help me track down where & when he got married. The family had moved to Swansea by the 1861 census.

However, any information about the Locks of Barnstaple during 1841 would be gratefully recieved. Many thanks in advance.  :)
