That sounds about right.
If you want to PM me with details of which of Amy's children is your mother/father, I can give you more family information on the Clansey & Holland branches.  :)

Hi and welcome!

Amy married Edward (possibly Edwin) Cook. They had 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, and certainly in the 50's they lived in Northfield, Birmingham. Does that fit with what you already know?

Hi Jim,

My suggestion that Arthur could have been an Oil Merchant was a little tongue-in-cheek  ::)

I am intrigued by your finding of an AH as a clerk in a Staffs Iron Foundry. Can you give me any more info please?
Since the family seems to have roots in the North-West of the city, I think it's highly likely that AH could have worked in the Black Country.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, folks!

Carol: Arthur's occupation on the first child's (Arthur Pryce - 1898) b.cert is shown as 'Merchant's Clerk' and on the second child's (Arthur Robert-1900) as 'Factor's Clerk'.
On Arthur Robert's marriage cert (1926), his father is listed as deceased, occ again 'Factor's Clerk'.
It looks like the King's Norton death is more likely to be him than the Nuneaton one; you think?

Jim: It seems increasingly likely that they weren't married; as you say.

Amy lived until 2009 and she had acknowledged in her later years that Edwin Rogers was her father. Unfortunately I didn't start tracing my ancestors until 2010 so I missed a great opportunity to get further information from her.  :(

Arthur (1900) and Ann (1902) were both born at the same address, whereas Amy was born at the Birmingham Workhouse Infirmary. I'm now thinking along the lines of Arthur being married (not to Annie, but perhaps to Lydia?) but supporting Annie and their 2 children until his death in 1902, and eventually Annie moving in with Edwin Rogers. Perhaps she had a penchant for married men???  :-\

Hi everyone! Brand-newbie here, hoping to not make a nuisance of myself!  ::)

I'm trying to find the marriage of Arthur Holland and Annie Clansey, c. 1897, presumably in Birmingham or local.

Known information so far:
Annie gave birth to Arthur Pryce Holland in 1898. He died in infancy. Father shown on b.cert as Arthur Holland, mother as Annie Holland, nee Clansey.
Annie gave birth again in 1900 to Arthur Robert Holland - father and mother shown on b.cert as above.

Neither Arthur, Annie, nor Arthur jnr show up anywhere on the 1901 Census; however, Annie had 2 further children, Ann in 1902 and Amy in 1910, and she and her 3 children do show up on the 1911 census, (as boarders) all with the surname Clansey (including Arthur, born 1900). The father(s) of Ann and Amy are not given on the b. cert for either of the girls and Annie is listed as a widow in 1911.

Arthur jnr and Ann grew up with the surname Holland, Amy retained the surname Clansey until she married.

From Free BMD, it looks like Annie was born in West Bromwich, but I haven't been able to find out where Arthur Holland came from, or when he married Annie.

Suggestions, anyone?  :-\
