His Christian name is indexed as "Sandam".
Looks to me like the priest struggled to fill out the form - look at "labourer", and struggled with his name also. May have been a pronunciation/hearing issue?
But I would say it is certainly him.

Thanks for your input. I don't see labourer anywhere - all farmers! Yes I saw it was indexed as 'Sandam'. I tried to see Sandy of Sander or something that could be a form of Alexander but just can't. I do think chances are that its them. As I said her father, place and ages all correct.

Wexford / Are these the same man

Hi,

I have an ancestor Elizabeth Mordaunt. I know where her grave is (Monaseed), she is with her parents as Elizabeth Kinsella. Her father was Edward.  There is an Alexander Kinsella in the grave, relationship not stated. Death ages/dates confirm that this is them in 1901;

I am wondering if this is their marriage, age, location and her father's name match. Just can't read his name. Even on 1901 census where she is styled as Bessie his name is written as Alexander. I can't actually read his name on marriage registration, but it sure is not Alexander.

Thanks for any opinions

Click on his name, edit, scroll to bottom and delete father and mother then attach him to the correct parents

Thank you but that does not work for me. When I click on edit I do not get an option to delete parents only to delete the person. I presume I am doing something wrong but I don't know what!

Oh I  did not follow your instructions properly. Now I see it. I was looking in the drop down box by his name not clicking on it. Thank you so much.

Help I attributed a man to the wrong family and I can't see how to disconnect him from that family without deleting him and I don't want to do that as I have too much info which is correct on both him and the other family. Can anyone tell me how to disconnect them please?

Here's the link on IrishGenealogy for that 31 January 1874 marriage (writing poor)-

Kiltaglassan thanks for that. I do have that cert.  Ballingarry is certainly right as is the residence which I read as Commons. His father is also correct I just couldn't read her father. I am delighted that you think it reads James as that was her father! Oh and they are on one census as Walla.

Hi, I know this post dates back to 2015, and don't know if you've resolved your questions. But Thomas Fitzpatrick and Ellen Wall are my g-g-grandparents. Patrick Fitzpatrick and Mary (Minnie) Ryan are my g-grandparents, and Ellen (Nellie) Fitzpatrick Nevin (b. 1905-d.1971) was my grandmother. If you need any help with that branch of the tree, please feel free to reach out.

Thanks for the message. I did indeed resolve a few questions and make some new connections with the help here, but there are always more to be discovered. I didn't really delve too far into the Fitzpatricks, but I am always interested to find out more. Nellie Wall who married Thomas Fitzpatrick was my mother-in-laws grandfather's sister, I do remember her talking about her father's cousin 'Larry Wall the great fiddle player' who was of course one of the Fitzpatricks.
I would like to make contact with you, I see this is your first post you need to make 3 posts for us to be able to communicate by private message.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Married by a ???
« on: Tuesday 03 January 23 12:31 GMT (UK)  »
The original notation that the child was illegitimate may not be correct.

Couple-beggars were usually Catholic priests deprived of faculties, but could also be CofI or dissenting ministers in similar straights.

My understanding is that the marriages performed by such priests/ministers were irregular, but not invalid.
Thanks Wexflyer. Whatever the legal situation the local priest did not consider them married. The next 2 children are recorded as Illegitimate, then the couple marry in the neighbouring parish. After that the illegimitate was no longer recorded. I would love to know the full story behind it but I never will.
M

Well, I can say that if the parents subsequently married (again) then all previous children were thereby legitimated.

In cannon law that is. In English civil law, subsequent marriage did not serve to legitimate previous children.

Ha Ha, I don't think that Priest would have thanked them for informing him that by cannon law their children are now legitimate, and he should correct his record! Still, it's good to know. My direct relative was one of the younger children born after the "accepted" marriage.
