Could the first name end with "ore"? The r and e look similar to the ones in Burgess. One or two letters before it possibly?? Can't think of a name that would fit though!
Andrea

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for trying, when I look at it it could be 're' can't think of a name either.

Hi Mary,
There are three Burgess children listed on the IGI, christened in Midlothian. Parents John Burgess and Catharine Whittit (with lots of variations in the spellings!). Margaret 1798, in Liberton; Alexander 1794, in Colinton; and Elisabeth 1795, also in Colinton.
I know your William is not listed, but these could be clues as to parish records which are worth checking. There won't be a birth registration as such, as this is before civil registration began.
Cheers
Prue
Hi Prue,
Thank you for your reply. I did see that marriage on the IGI and wondered if that could be the same John and Catherine, I will try on Scotlands People and see if I can find any info.
Regards
Mary.   :)

Hello Patrica,
   Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I have searched all the lines you mention and found nothing, this is one of these families that didn't seem to register the births of their children.  I have also tried Scotlands People but to no avail. I do know who William married, his parents names I got from his death certificate they were John Burgess and Catherine Whitock.
Anyway thanks again.
Mary.

Hi

No relationship that I know off but can confirm both IGI and ScotlandsPeople have an Alexander Miller, born 21/06/1767 @ Wick, parents William Miller/Christian Harold.

Ysabeau

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I did find the record on IGI which made me think that William and Christian could have been his parents, I will try and verify this by getting the extract from Scotlands People.

Best wishes
Mary.

I believe we have a connection!!

I have the death certificate of Catherine Reid (nee Miller) and it lists her parents as Alexander Miller and Elizabeth Harper. I also have her in a few census returns.

She married David Reid in 1825 and had nine children

James, David, Elizabeth, Jane, Christina, Alexander, Catherine, Donald (direct line) and William.

Alexander Reid and his brother Donald moved to Birkenhead around 1860.

My first post on this board so Hi to everyone.

One off my families on my tree is the Miller family from Stirkoke & Kirkhill.
I have traced the family back to Alexander MILLER and his wife Elizabeth HARPER.
I believe Alexander's parents to have been William MILLER and Christian HAROLD??? going by the Scottish naming pattern could be.

The children off Alexander & Elizabeth were---
WILLIAM MILLER C 1796 he married ELIZABETH JOHNSTON 1820 in Wick I have more info on their family.

JAMES MILLER c 1801 he married MARY MOWAT 1826 in Wick they were my gggrandparents

JOHN MILLER b 1803 no info.

CHRISTIAN MILLER C. 1806 no info.

ALEXANDER MILLER C. 1810 he married ISABEL HARPER 1838 in Wick

DONALD MILLER c. 1813 he married MARY COGHILL 1843 in Wick. I have more info on their family.

If anyone can connect to these Miller's I would be pleased to hear from you.

Regards Mary :)
