Thanks for your two versions Peter (McGregor) ... and now you've posed another interesting thought ... that the original picture might be a combination of photo and someone's artistic touch ups.

I am aware that old photos sometimes had coloured tints added in the past but if anyone can shine any light about how this particular picture of Louisa (and Robert's too if possible) was originally created, it would be lovely to understand more about it.

Lovely to get these 'fixes' re Robert Evans from Loord74, Peter(McGregor) and Pat(Trishanne) ... and so promptly too. Thank you all very much.

Handypandy made a surprising (at least to me) and very intriguing point on my 'Louisa Evans Sofala Aust' thread ... he thought both of the original pictures might be pastel drawings and not photographs at all. Wow!

So if you have any thoughts about that idea, pls jump into the conversation on the Louisa thread.

Thanks a lot for your three versions Pat (Trishanne), and done so quickly too.

And also your's, Handypandy ... and your thought that both Louisa's and Robert's images might be pastel sketches (and not photographs) has blown me away. As I said when I posted Robert's photos, his picture has always seemed to be a bit of an 'odd' photo to me and this might be the explanation.

Would love to explore this idea further with Rootchat folk if its appropriate to talk about it here. So I wonder does anyone else have any opinions/comments/thoughts about them not being photos but instead pastel sketches??

Many thanks .. Leend

Hi all ... here's the two photos of an original photo of my great, great grandfather. It would probably have been taken anything up to 20 years before the one of Louisa that I just posted. And the two photos seem quite different in style,

To my un-informed eye, this photo of Robert has possibly been more 'fiddled with - read enhanced' when it was originally created.  It doesn't really seem very life-like to me. But check out that curl on his beard :)

If anyone wants to have a go with it, that would be lovely ... thanks ... Leend
PS Again, I'm not fussed about keeping the original frame

Hello ... I recently had an opportunity to take a photo of a professional photo of Louisa, my great-great grandmother.

Am posting two versions of the same photo, one with original plain wooden frame (but which is slanting plus I didn't get all the frame in ... sigh!). The other photo I'm posting is where I zoomed close to her face. Neither are very good photos and the glass caused reflections.  :-[

But I'm hoping someone might have a go at enhancing the photo. Would prefer the original wooden frame to disappear and perhaps someone might like to use another border on the enhanced photo and/or add in a little colouring ... or simply make it sepia.

I also took photos of an original of her husband, Robert Evans as well which I will post next. The two photos were not originally taken at the same time as he was quite a bit older than Louisa.

I appreciate whatever help can be provided and many thanks ... Leend

Many thanks to Handypandy and Japeflakes. I love how you've finetuned the B&W and the tinted one is really very charming and special. Great work!

And this is such a lovely community, with all the restorers making such a difference to the old photos ... Can I also say though that its not only fixing/dating photos etc that happens here (at least for me) as the generosity shown brings joy and enrichment.

Photos are a wonderful connection to the past and being able to see them repaired also brings the opportunity to reflect on our own lives and perhaps acknowledge a little (or a lot) just how fortunate we are these days ... and how different our ancestors lives were. I felt I wanted to make that idea a little more visible and am hoping its ok for me to do so in this way.

So thank you, one and all :) The Irish Hughes family seem a bit more closer somehow after sharing their photos and a bit of their stories.

Here's another charming photo of baby Audrey though its in much worse condition than the previous one I've just posted. Can anyone help with improving this one as well.

Hello, can anyone pls give my photo of this little charmer a bit of a tidy up please and if its possible to do anything to mask or blur the visible background outside the very elaborate frame, that would be wonderful too ... while still keeping the original frame intact that is :)

Many thanks ... Leend

That's interesting Carol and thanks.

Am now wondering if you (or anyone else  :) from the knowledgeable community of Rootschat) might have any thoughts re dating the clothes that No 1 and No 3 are wearing as compared to No 2? Clearly man No 3 is in a rural setting while man No. 2 is in London.

Many thanks ... Leend
