Hi Gillian, thanks for the reply and information. I will contact Cape archives and see what they can do. This is a new country for me to research.

Hi Glen, welcome to rootschat.

I was searching for confirmation of a family tale regarding my grandmother and her possible father. Her mother worked at the Carr factory in Carlisle and my gran was born in the local workhouse. I could find no connection as the eligable males went off to missionary work in China. I did find the book ' Rich Desserts and Captains Thin A Family and their Times by Margaret Forster' very interesting and it has a lot of family history in it. My local library did not have a copy but another in the county did and they arranged for it to be sent to me.

Canada Lookup Request / Merryman ontario
« on: Thursday 11 October 12 18:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Bit modern this one; I have been trying to trace the Merryman family who emigrated to Canada in 1952. I have found some of them on the 1968 voting list living in 199 Cathcart Street London West ON.
The family is;
Frederick Merryman b1913 Berwick England
Ellen Nee Swinney   b1914 Berwick wife
* Merryman b1933 *
* Merryman b1949 *
Frederick, Ellen and * were at the London address in 1968 but I can find no trace after this date.

Thanks Oletta, I did read the book and found that the only'eligable' males were working in China so that closed the family story of a connection.
