Thanks I will order it. Will it say he was killed/murdered (if he in fact was)?

Family members both said it was known and apparently in the local newspapers and talk of the pub....he was also a "bit of a drinker" and it was suggested that it was a very suspicious.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Thomas Mitchell - Murder
« on: Monday 20 February 12 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Thomas Mitchell b 1894 Widnes and d 1940 Manchester. (Spouse: Ada Mitchell nee Hunt from Widnes)

Having spoken to two different family members, both say that they were told he was murdered / robbed whilst working on the railways in (or around) Manchester.

Would I be able to find any reference to this in newspaper articles etc. How would I go about looking for this/

TIA
Tanja

Lancashire / Lost Mitchell family - Widnes
« on: Monday 20 February 12 05:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I am trying to trace this MITCHELL family:

I have Timothy Mitchell b1866 Ireland married to Ellen Brown b 1868 Widnes:

*have him on 1881 census - Cuerdely
*have him married to Ellen 1890 - Prescot (Widnes)
*have him and family on 1891 census - Widnes
*have him and family on 1901 census - Widnes

Then poof.....nothing! Not him or any of the family ??? ???

*have death 1922 - Prescot

Any ideas as to why I cannot find any of them?

TIA
Tanja

Huge thanks Pel.

I def think it's my Thomas, as every census has him single, either as a lodger/boarder or living with his brother. when he is a lodger the addresses are very very near where his brother and family are staying. It's just I think his brother and wife also got older and maybe were unable / could not afford to look after him.

All very sad, but i think having heard that there was a batty uncle it could be him and possibly that is why he never married ???

Those places all looked exceptionally grim! :(

Thanks Pels !

Was that a hospital and jail. What would people have been sent there for  ???

It's all getting very interesting! I remember my nan saying that there was a "loony uncle"....might he have been him?

Now looking at another Thomas Mitchell (the uncle of the one I asked about before).
Born approx 1861 Ireland...have him on 1881 Census with his brother Timothy as a farm labourer. then have him 1901 living with his brother Timothy in Widnes.
Each time he has been single.

There is a possible listing on a census...listed as Single but as an inmate in Liverpool.
I have looked at the census but cannot see where he is an inmate? Any ideas?

TIA
