Lincolnshire / Re: Parents of John Elias Carter

Jamie,
Thank you so very much for breaking down this brick wall. I really am most grateful. It has been a long, frustrating hunt. Your two recent posts will go a long way toward helping me finally develop this tree.

You say that you are researching the 4 brothers on the Scredington War memorial for Samuel's Gt Grandson. Somewhat coincidentally, I am researching the family of John Elias/Elliss Carter for a friend who is his Grandson. Do you think it would be a good idea to put the two cousins in touch with each other? If so, and if he agrees, perhaps you could pass the Gt Grandson's contact details to me by private message and I will pass them on to my friend.

We live in a Lincolnshire village and we could visit Scredington which is less than 30 minutes away.

Thanks again and kind regards,
Jack

Thanks for that. It makes sense as I’ve seen it elsewhere too

Can anyone tell me please how to add generations to the kekule ancestor report in MFT9? At the moment I'm limited to 10 generations and can't find anything in the manual relating to this.

I use Findmypast and I've had a look at the numerator's list. Must have been crowded in Pistyll Du with 10 people in the building.

I've just been round to the Welsh lady's house but she is away for a while and is unlikely to be back until the lock down is finished. I'll stick with your translation.

Thanks again,
Jack

Thank you so very much for all this. It is really helpful and explains a lot. I'll get a screen shot of the house and show it to Caradog's daughter-in-law who lives just 10 miles from me here in Lincolnshire. We'll see if it stirs any memories.

With regard to the poem, could I beg another favour, please? Would you be able to post the poem in its original Welsh? There is a lady in the village here who speaks Welsh and I will ask her to record it so that it can be played to Caradog's daughter-in-law.

One other thing if I may; Pistyll Du is the house, Roewen is the village and I presume Caerhun is the parish but what is 'Talycefn Rso' ?

Thanks again and kind regards,
Jack

Caernarvonshire / Roberts family of Caerhun

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me with the following, please.

John Roberts born 1879 is listed in the 1911 Census for Caerhun. His address is Pistyll Du Roewen Talycefn Rso, Caerhun. I am completely baffled by this and would appreciate any help that's offered.

On the same census his place of birth is given as Llansant. I cannot find any reference to that and wonder if it should be Llanrwst.

He has two sons, Caradog b.1910 and male b.1911 not Christened.

Also staying with him is his mother Jane born 1938 in Cerrigydrudion, Denbighshire.

Naturally, if anyone knows this family I'd love to be in touch.

Kind regards,
Jack

Travelling People / Re: Gibson family.

Hello Debbie,

It's been a wee while since we were last in touch. In the meantime I've been trying to resolve the connection between us and I may have come up with a solution.

For years I have had a copy of the marriage entry for Robert and Janet which shows that they were married on 9 March 1825 in Tranent but I could never find her parents. A couple of days ago I came across another marriage entry from the Falkirk OPR 479/120/101 which reads, "Robert Gibson of the parish of Tranent and Jean Gibson of this parish. Married 11th March 1825."

The minister in Falkirk probably new her and therefore got her name right which I now believe is Jean Gibson born 1808 in Kilmarnock to Alexander and Jean Gibson. The minister in Tranent probably misheard her name and made an incorrect entry.

I would be very interested to hear your comments on this which, if I'm right, confirms Jean as my 2x gt grandmother.

Kind regards,
Jack
