Ah no, the use of sporadically is my mistake - I only found some years but that was because of a mistranscription. I've since found that he seems to be listed consistently until at least 1910 (the Southwark records after that aren't on Ancestry it seems.)
I did wonder about the estate being in the hands of administrators - but it would appear he's renting the property from "Magdalen College" (he's listed as the occupier, Magdalen College as the owner) so I wouldn't have thought that was the case.
My only other theory is that it appears the land tax seems to be listed as exempt when someone is renting the property - I wonder if no-one else was there and Magdalen College listed it that way to dodge the tax?
